About Inflator.org

Inflator.org exists to answer one question well: which air pump should you buy? The category is drowning in identical-looking listings, recycled spec sheets, and review sites that have never touched the products they rank. We take the opposite approach — a small test bench, a repeatable protocol, and published numbers you can hold us to.

How we test

• Speed: every unit runs three timed fills from 28 to 36 PSI on the same mounted 205/55R16 tire. We report the median. Heavy-duty units get an additional 33″ tire protocol.
• Gauge accuracy: each built-in gauge is compared against a calibrated digital reference at 20, 32, and 50 PSI. We publish the worst-case deviation.
• Noise: peak dB measured at one meter, at working pressure.
• Battery life: cordless units run from full charge to empty, counting complete 28→36 PSI top-ups.
• Longevity: recommended units stay in rotation — trunk kits, garage duty, trail trips — and reviews are updated when something breaks or drifts.

Our rules

• We buy test units at retail wherever practical. When a manufacturer supplies a sample, the review says so.
• Rankings come from measurements, not commission rates. Several of our top picks are the cheapest units in their group.
• We cut more than we recommend — 15 of the 22 models in our current bench didn't make a ranking page.
