Fanttik X8 Apex vs X9 Pro
Buy the X8 Apex if the car comes first: it fills our reference 205/55R16 in 3:55 against the X9's 4:20, gets seven tires per charge against five, and runs 6 dB quieter. Buy the X9 Pro if the bike comes first: it is 0.3 lb lighter, reaches 100 PSI on a 700×25c Presta road tire in 1:35 against the X8's 1:50, and clears a 29×2.4 MTB tire to 25 PSI in 0:35. Price is close enough that it should not decide this; the tires you actually inflate should. Neither is a bad pump — both hold ±1.0 PSI, both charge over USB-C, both have sealed batteries.

Speed: it depends entirely on the tire
On a car tire the X8 wins by 25 seconds — 3:55 to 4:20, three runs each, medians reported. That is a 10% gap, and across a set of four tires it is a hundred seconds plus the extra cooling pause the X9 wants. On a road tire the result flips: the X9 hits 100 PSI on a 700×25c in 1:35 where the X8 needs 1:50, because the X9's cylinder is tuned for less volume at more pressure. Neither is the fastest road pump we own — the Cycplus A8 does that fill in 1:10 — but the X9 is the faster Fanttik.
The MTB number is the one that decides some buyers on its own. A 29×2.4 tire to 25 PSI took the X9 0:35, which is fast enough to adjust pressures at a trailhead between laps rather than committing to a number at home. Both pumps carry a threaded Presta head so no adapter is needed on road wheels; see Presta vs Schrader if that distinction is new.
Keep the whole class in perspective. Both of these are slow next to a tool-battery inflator — a Milwaukee M12 does the car fill in 1:08 — and both are far faster than a cheap 12V unit like the EPAuto at 5:35. Accuracy: a tie, and a good one
Both pumps held ±1.0 PSI against our calibrated digital reference at 20, 32 and 50 PSI, and both were repeatable, landing within half a PSI across consecutive runs. In a category where we have measured units four PSI out, that is the headline result: whichever one you buy, the auto-stop can be trusted to walk away from. The X9's high-pressure behaviour is very slightly conservative — asking for 100 PSI gave us 99 to 100 — which is the correct direction to miss in. Ergonomics, noise and heat
The X8 is machined aluminium at 1.2 lb and feels like a tool; the X9 is 0.9 lb with a rubberised grip band and feels like a bike accessory. In a jersey pocket that 0.3 lb and the slimmer profile are the difference between carrying it on a ride and leaving it at home. In a door pocket neither weight matters at all.
Noise favours the X8 by a real margin: 70 dB against 76 dB at one meter. Six dB is roughly a doubling of perceived loudness, and over a four-minute car fill in an attached garage at night that is worth having. Heat favours the X9 in bike use — two road tires back to back left it warm rather than hot — while the X8 gets hot enough after two consecutive car tires that we pause five minutes before the third. Both are behaving exactly as small high-pressure pumps must; the physics is explained in PSI, CFM and duty cycle.
Battery and value
Seven car tires per charge versus five is the X8's most practical advantage. That is a full set plus reserve against a full set with nothing spare, and if you top up two cars monthly it is the difference between charging every other month and charging every month. Both recharge over USB-C from any phone brick, and both have sealed, non-replaceable cells — plan on five or six years of service, not a decade, from either. Neither is the cheapest way to get air; both sit near the top of built-in battery inflators because they are the two we would actually rely on.
Questions we get asked
Is the X9 Pro just a newer X8?
No. The higher model number is a different design brief, not an upgrade. The X9 Pro is lighter and faster on bike tires, the X8 Apex is faster on car tires, quieter and longer-lasting per charge.
Can either one inflate a truck or RV tire?
Not sensibly. Both are rated to 150 PSI but move too little air to fill load-range E or trailer tires without heat-soaking. That job needs a continuous-duty compressor.
Do they need a Presta adapter for road bikes?
No. Both ship with a threaded Presta head that screws straight onto the valve, and both include a Schrader adapter for commuter and mountain bike wheels.
