Milwaukee M18 inflator, tested
Forty-nine seconds. That is the fastest 28→36 PSI fill we have ever timed on our reference 205/55R16, and it came from a cordless tool with no cord, no clamps, and no engine running. The M18 inflator is the only battery unit on our bench that treats a load-range E truck tire as routine work rather than an endurance event, and its gauge is as good as the best on the bench at ±0.5 PSI. It is also 5.9 lb bare, loud at 82 dB, and priced like the professional tool it is. If you drive a sedan, you are buying an answer to a question you do not have.

Speed is only half the story; sustained flow is the other half, and it is what separates this from every other cordless tool. We measured 1.1 CFM at the chuck at 60 PSI — a figure that puts it in the same conversation as clamp-fed portable compressors rather than pocket pumps. Why that matters more than the number on the box is laid out in PSI, CFM and duty cycle explained: a 150 PSI rating tells you where a pump stalls, not how fast it works at the pressure you actually use.
On our RV protocol — an ST225/75R15 trailer tire taken from 80 to 100 PSI — the M18 needed 2:40 per tire and a single 5Ah battery managed four of them without a thermal pause. That is not as fast as a continuous-duty Viair 450P, which does the same tire in 1:55 and never stops, but the Viair needs battery clamps and a hood open. Accuracy held across the range. Set to 36, 50, or 100 PSI, the auto-stop landed inside half a PSI of our calibrated reference every time, checked at all three of our standard checkpoints. That consistency at high pressure is rare — most units that read honestly at 32 PSI start drifting by 50 — and it is the reason we trust this tool on trailer tires where a two-PSI error actually matters. Nine full car-tire fills per 5Ah pack is the best battery endurance in the cordless group by a wide margin. In practice it means a set of four tires aired up from flat-ish, twice over, with a reserve — or a full trailhead session on 33-inch tires without swapping packs.
Design and usability
The M18 is built like a jobsite tool: a squat, roll-cage-shouldered body that stands on a wide rubber foot and does not walk across a driveway while running. The hose is a proper three-foot rubber line with a screw-on brass chuck, long enough to reach a rear inner dually valve without moving the tool — an ergonomic detail the smaller M12 cannot match with its two-foot hose.
Controls are the same simple set: pressure up, pressure down, start. The display is bright and readable in direct sun, and the tool remembers the last set pressure, which sounds trivial until you are doing eight tires at the same target. There is onboard storage for the sport-ball needle and inflation cone, though nobody buying this tool is inflating a basketball with it.
The honest downsides are weight and noise. At 5.9 lb bare — closer to eight with a 5Ah pack — it is a two-hand carry and it will not live in a door pocket. At 82 dB it is the loudest cordless unit we measured, a hard mechanical note that carries across a campground. Who it's for — and who should skip it
This tool earns its keep on volume and pressure. Buy it if you run a half-ton or HD truck on load-range E tires, tow a trailer or fifth wheel, air down and back up for trail days, or maintain a small fleet where four vehicles a week get checked. Buy it if you are already deep on M18 — the bare tool is the cheapest way anyone gets this level of performance. Who should skip it: sedan and crossover owners. If your tires sit at 32–36 PSI and you top them up once a month, the M18 does the job in 49 seconds instead of 68 and charges you a large weight, noise, and money premium for the nineteen seconds. Skip it also if you have no M18 batteries and no other M18 tools — buying into an 18V platform for a tire pump is the most expensive route to inflated tires we can think of. Versus its main rival
The real comparison is not against another brand — it is against the M12 sitting on the same shelf. The M18 is nineteen seconds faster on a car tire, reaches 150 PSI instead of 120, holds more than twice the tires per charge, and can work an RV tire the M12 has no business touching. It is also 3.3 lb heavier, 4 dB louder, and a substantially bigger purchase.
