Milwaukee M12 vs DeWalt 20V inflator
The Milwaukee M12 is the better tire inflator and the DeWalt DCC020IB is the better air tool. On our bench the M12 filled the test tire in 1:08 to the DeWalt's 1:21, held ±0.5 PSI against our reference where the DeWalt drifted a full PSI high at 50, and weighs 2.6 lb bare against 4.8. But the DeWalt runs from a 20V battery, a 12V car socket, or a wall outlet, and carries a second high-volume pump that fills a queen air mattress in 1:35 and sucks it flat again in 50 seconds. If tires are the whole job, buy the Milwaukee. If the inflator has to cover tires, mattresses, pool floats and a dead-battery contingency, buy the DeWalt — and the platform you already own breaks most ties before the numbers do.

Speed: 13 seconds, and where they come from
Thirteen seconds across a single tire sounds like nothing. Across four corners it's most of a minute, and across a seasonal top-up on two cars it's three minutes of standing in a cold driveway. The M12's advantage is packaging: a small, high-RPM pump moving air through a short high-pressure circuit with very little dead volume. The DeWalt has to route through a housing that also contains a second, entirely different pump, and it pays for that in plumbing losses.
Neither is slow. Both sit in the top five of the 22 units we've timed, three to five times quicker than the 12V plug-in class, where the quickest takes 4:10 on the same tire. The fastest fill we've ever recorded is the 0:49 M18, covered in M12 vs M18.
Accuracy: the half PSI that separates them
The M12's TrueFill auto-stop landed within half a PSI of our calibrated reference at 20, 32 and 50 PSI — joint best on our bench alongside the M18 and, improbably, the budget AstroAI. Set 36, walk away, come back to 36. The DeWalt's preset was solid at car pressures but read a full PSI high by the time we got to 50 PSI, which is the kind of drift that matters if you're filling a light-truck tire to 55 or a trailer tire to 65 and trusting the display.
A PSI is not a safety issue; it's a repeatability issue. The point of a preset is that you stop checking, and a gauge reading 1 PSI high quietly leaves you 1 PSI soft. Verify the DeWalt once with a stick gauge at your target pressure and remember the offset — our full error table is in how accurate are inflator gauges.
Build, ergonomics and the second pump
The Milwaukee is the nicer object to use: 2.6 lb bare, hose and chuck stowed in the body, the dense unfussy feel of the rest of the M12 line. The DeWalt is 4.8 lb, wider, and needs a flat spot — but it has a threaded chuck that won't pop off at 60 PSI, a longer hose, and a 160 PSI ceiling against the Milwaukee's 120.
The high-volume side is the DeWalt's real trick and not a gimmick. A queen air mattress goes flat-to-firm in 1:35 — only 15 seconds off a dedicated AC bed pump — and the deflate mode packs it down in 0:50. If you camp or own pool floats, read our air mattress pump notes before deciding the M12 is enough. Noise splits the two by 2 dB, 78 against 80, which you won't notice.
Value and platform math
Both are sold bare and kitted, and the bare-tool price is the only comparison that means anything. Own M12 packs and the Milwaukee is one of the best value buys on this site; if your garage runs yellow, the DeWalt is. Buying into a platform for an inflator alone is a bad deal either way — a battery and charger costs more than the tool, and a 12V unit from our under $100 picks does the same job for less money and more of your time.
The DeWalt earns one exception: because it runs from a car socket or a wall outlet with no battery at all, you can buy it bare, never own a 20V pack, and still have a working inflator. Nothing else in the class offers that. It also goes further per charge — six tires from a 5Ah pack against four from a 4Ah.

Is 13 seconds per tire actually worth choosing over?
Only if nothing else separates them. Across four tires it is 52 seconds. Choose on power sources, weight and gauge accuracy first; use the fill time as the tiebreaker.
Does the M12's 120 PSI ceiling limit it?
Not for cars, SUVs or half-ton trucks, which top out around 44 PSI at the placard. It matters for RV and trailer tires at 80–110 PSI, where the DeWalt's 160 PSI rating and real airflow are the difference.
Can the DeWalt run without a battery?
Yes. It works from a 12V accessory socket or a 110V wall outlet, so you can buy the bare tool, never own a 20V pack, and still have a functioning inflator.
